I am getting an Explorer rear end for my 2000 Ranger. While I am under there I figured I would pull the leaf packs as well. The add-a-leak kit I have is not going to work. I am not really trying to get a lot of lift; I mostly want to stiffen up the rear. A couple bags of feed in the back make it sag. Would there be any benefits to using Explorer leaf packs? This is my way of thinking. Explorers most likely have more weight in the rear so the springs have to compensate. Plus, I like the under axle configuration because it greatly reduces wheel hop and axle wrap. If I use them, will they install in the stock Ranger locations? How will they affect the ride height?

The explorer leafs will fit under your ranger, and will give you about 1-2" lift, each vehicle varies. But you will have to flip the springs to over the axle, leaving them under will drop your truck close to 5". The ex leaves are thicker providing a slightly better load capacity. If you carry regular loads, consider a pair of f150 leafs...

I guess they install differently to the frame of an explorer then. That is how they have a different ride hieght. I never thoguth about 150 springs. I think I can get the Exporer sroings thrown in witht he rear end though.

The ex frame is wider in the rear, so the springs sit under the frame. On the ranger, they sit outside the frame, and the mounting points are above the bottom of the frame...

Ah, I see. Well, so much for an axle under configuration. i guess I can eventually get kicker shocks and maybe and anit wrap bar. But I am trying to keep this simple and affordable.
