Hey guys, ive heard some of my friends talk about swaping explorer leaf springs into the rear of a ranger. My questions are 1) Is there any modifications needed to do this or are they a direct bolt in? 2) Do they increase towing? 3) Do they lift your truck?

P.S. I have a 97 2wd

You will probably need to take the centering pin out and flip it. Other than that, they bolt right in. They should give you around 2" of lift depending on the current condition of your leafs and the set you swap in.

91-94 4 door. Get packs with 4 leafs.

+1

Just flip the center pin, that's all....they gave me almost 2 1/2 inches of lift....

You may need to, depending how much lift you get. Measure your shocks, and see if the Ex. shocks are longer. It's be easy to grab them while you're under there. Before I swapped in my Ex. leafs I already had over-length shocks and then switch to longer ones, so I don't recall.

Spacers should level it out fine.

Its '91-'01 on the leafs. Just make sure they're steel (a small number of Sports had fiberglass monoleafs :shok: )

1.5-1.75" is more realistic on the lift they'll give..

I wouldnt bother getting leafs from an early explorer...theyre probably sagging from years of service. I would look into getting newer leafs from the 2nd gen explorer. The "F" code is the easiest to find, and is a 4 leaf pack from a 95-01 Explorer 4dr 4x4.

The "F" code is from a 95-01 Explorer 4dr 4x4 (4-leaf)
The "L" code is from a 95-00 Explorer 2dr (3" wide monoleaf)
The "H" code is from a 95-01 Explorer Eddie Bauer/Limited AWD (Air Ride 4-leaf)

As they said, just use C clamps to stabilize the pack while you remove the center pin and flip it around. Since your 2wd, you'll have to probably get longer shocks. Getting 4x4 shocks for your model year should do it perfectly as the 4x4 sit about 2-2.5" higher. The leafs should lift it around ~2 inches. May ride slightly stiffer, which probably is a good thing, and have more towing capacity.
