Hi everyone. I bought this cheap today and I'm pleased with it. The interior was a bit grim but after removing the dog hairs and ash it's quite nice.

It's the 4.0 SOHC V6. I'd prefer a manual transmission but the auto does the job.

The interior (Still needs a bit of a clean... and a new stereo)

And what is this? And should I reattach it? It's like a coiled spring and seems to fit over the post next to it.

I'm still rocking a Firestone Wilderness AT tyre which I have a recall notice in the logbook from 2001. What tyres should I put on this? I'd like to do some light off roading with it.

Let me be the first to welcome you. I don't know for sure, but I think you are our first "across the pond" member.

It is weird seeing a right hand drive Explorer. I like how they used a floor shifter.

It also looks as if Ford kept the old Generation 1 Explorer radios in those. What is that above the radio? Is it a clock?

Yeah above the radio is a clock. The shifter is awful. It's comedy size. I'd like a cool T-handle for it like a Cherokee but I'd lose the OD button.

Wow that is a trip to look at... I'm pretty sure you are the first UK member... again, not sure. Do you have a pic of the spring from the other side of the axle? That might help a lil...

I'll try to get a pic but I'm sure it just had that assembly on the one side. I haven't had a good look at it all yet. I took it home today, cleaned it out and it's in storage til the end of the month so I can tax and insure it.

Could it be part of the self levelling rear suspension?

The spring and arm assembly looks like a leveling valve setup from a semi air ride system. Is it equipped with suspension airbags?

Holy smokes! After all the time I spent in England I never once saw a right hand drive Explorer, just Rangers. That thing is sweet. Welcome to TRS!

That arm is either for a level sensor to control what appears to be an Air boosted shock (damper in english english) OR it could be a sensor to indicate load for the brake system

More likely that it's for a leveling system because it's probably got ABS
and thus wouldn't need a rear axle load sensor for the braking system.

The owner's manual says it has self levelling rear suspension. These Explorers only came in one trim level and the only option was (I think) leather seats. I'm pretty sure it's top spec as it has power everything.
