Explorer dash compatible?

I was at the yard today looking for parts to improve on my 2wd 92 Ranger project. Found a 94 Explorer with a perfect dash and it looked exactly like mine without the many cracks that mine has.

Wondered if this dash would bolt right into my 92 or would some modification be required.

This Explorer as had a nice instrument cluster -- same question direct fit into my 92 or not exactly?

The seats were gone in the Explorer but I wondered if heated seats were available in the early Explorer years up to 94. If so, maybe I could source a pair of heated seats which would be nice for trips to Canada in the winter.

The dash/cluster should interchange, the door panels are were they made up the Explorers extra width.

Heated seats were not available back then, I don't think they were an option until the 00's. You can get kits to convert just about any seat to heated seats though.

If your truck is standard cab I do not recomend Explorer seats unless you are pretty short and pretty slim. I had them in my truck and they put me way too close to the steering wheel because they hit the back window. Another thing I don't like about them is you cannot adjust the angle of the drivers side seat back.

Heated seats? Do they have such a thing?

Ah, of course they do...but I would think you might have to put them on a relay so they don't drain your battery or overwork your current system...I wouldn't recommend trying to add them to an existing circuit even though they probably draw very little and would not be used all the time.

Good to know about the dash as I need to replace mine as well.

Seats depend on the person, I have explorer seats and they are a perfect fit. Also mine can tilt back but there is no room to do so, not that it bothers me I like to sit up right.

Mine were out of a first gen Explorer.

My parents had a '94 and the seats had the same "one click too far ahead" position.

They had it for 15 years and I had the Explorer seats in mine for a year, I never saw a way to adjust them. The Explorer had power drivers seat so you could lean the whole thing back but the back to the seat angle never adjusted.

They made the standard cabs bigger later on too.

The instrument cluster will bolt in and the wiring will plug up but the pinouts on those plugs changed between 92 and 93. You can repin them to make them work but it would be easier to find an earlier gauge cluster.

Thanks for the tips. I'm of to the yard on Sunday to see if I can source a decent dash!

Picked up a nice dash out of 93 EB Explorer. No cracks, dents or scratches on it and only the two vents on the passenger side were broken. I went through the yard looking for some substitute vents but only found more some broken ones or ones that had be removed but were had their retaining tabs broken off.

Wondering if these might be available new from any sources? Looks like they don't hold up to well no that have some 20 years of use behind them.

I should also mention I picked up so power buckets in cloth. They should look nice when I have the re-upholstered this winter. Interesting thing was the back on the drivers seat did not recline as one poster mentioned.

I just assumed that was the price I would pay for having the full power seats. Then on my out, I spotted and 94 EB Explorer that had similar power buckets but in leather with the tilt lever for the seat back on the drivers side. This seat was trashed but I'm hoping the mechanism is fine. Hopfully I can have this leather seat redone in cloth to match my original interior and I'll get to retain the tilt option.

Wonder if there is a good source for rebuilt power seat motors or perhaps new motors of decent quality at a reasonable price.
