Explorer 8.8 w/ disc brakes C-clip eliminators...

An L/S is fine for mild offroading. Lockers are more suitable to dedicated offroading.IMO Clip eliminators are not needed with disc brakes but you wont be driving (or towing for that matter) very far if you break an axle. Disc will keep the wheel on but things will begin to bind and wear quickly.

It is on my list, just further down.....a locker in the front is further up....

BTW: I know a L/S isn't a locker, but why remove a perfectly good (rebuilt 2 months ago) L/S?

c-clip eliminators have nothing to do with the brakes. The replace the weak c-clips that hold the axle shaft in the housing.

You're worrying about the wrong part here.
For the wheel to come out, the AXLE has to break. The C-clip is fully captivated within the side gear of the differential, it cannot come out or break (unless maybe you had a catastrophic carrier failure). Even on the POS Jeep c-clip rear D35, when it breaks and the wheel & shaft come out, you'll always find the broken stub in the diff carrier with a perfectly reusable c-clip holding it in.

thanks Junkie...

i would assume that drums are better for off roading?

discs are better for offroad and onroad, hell all around, mud collects in the drums on the rear brakes versus disc's which clean out very easily

I might pull the disc parts if it isn't too big of a pain tomorrow.

who knows, I might buy the whole axle and then put the drums on it and sell it.

Yeah, it'd be dumb to choose drums over discs when both are available for just about any reason

Better stopping power when wet (not necessarily when dry though)
More resistant to brake fade
Much easier to change pads on
They don't collect mud & sand inside them
No "grabbyness" on moist days (not sure how much Explorer drums experience this, its a very common issue on Ranger 10" drums)
They work just fine with the stock master cyl
Holds the wheel in in the very unlikely event you do manage to break the 31 spline shaft.

.

The only thing i've got against the explorer disc set up is the e brake shoes seem to fall apart alot....

I am going to grab the disc parts tomorrow. I am going to grab 2 passenger flex hoses that way I don't have to reroute the stock hard line.

So with the disc Junkie, I can keep the stock master cylinder and not need anything else?

If your bronco had RABS, your master will work just fine.

I don't think it does. Elwill a master out of an Explored work or do I need one from a BII with RABS?

Why would you want RearABS?

A master cylinder from a RABS equipped truck is different that a master cylinder from a non RABS equipped truck. Having a RABS master cylinder won't make the truck have rear abs. The RABS master cylinder is able to push more volume of brake fluid that will be needed to operate the rear calipers as the pistons are alot bigger than those of a wheel cylinder. Yes you can use the master from the sploder.

GOOOOOOD to know! thanks man
So what your saying is that when I go obtain a discbrakes 8.8 from a exploder I should take the master cylinder as well.

No, it won't. The rotor, caliper and caliper mount will hold the axle and tire onto the housing. And I wouldn't be worrying about 'weak' c clips on a 31 spline 8.8 anyway......

If you are that worried about it Superior Gear and Axle sells a kit called the Super 88, has c clip eliminators.

I also know moser sells them for the 28 splines, not sure about the 31's

I was under the impression that the moser kits were for street/strip and not designed to stand up to the side loads that is seen off-roading.
