exploder 8.8 build up for 03 edge

I got a 8.8 disk brake rear end out of an 01 explorer. wire wheeled the housing and tore it apart. its a open diff with 4:10's and 31 spline axles.

A guy i work with has a 8.8 LS carrier built for 28 spline axles.

Can I put new spider gears in that carrier for a 31 spline axles or do I have to have a carrier made for 31 spline axles also????? I need an answer before I go any further lol.

plans are to truss it with the "Iron Rock Off Road" truss, put new brakes on it (slotted and drilled rotors), a "solid" diff cover and come up with some insane way of mounting shocks.

Ok so change of plans........ screw the carrier. I've decided to spool it!

Just bought a set of 2.73's, a Moser spool, and c-clip eliminators from moser as well. So thats a good start I guess.
