So we picked this bay boy up last night for $950.

5.4L 2V, factory tow package, rear air, about 224K, had one blown plug that I spent most of the day dealing with, because the first repair didn't take, so I had to get my one friend with the fancy-pants Mack-daddy repair kit to come over and we did it the right way.

Got it running and drove it around a bit and it runs smooth, good power, trans shifts nicely. I have a few odds and ends to button up and the radio to switch out, but I am very happy with it.

Whoa! Nice ride. That's a tad bit bigger than any rbv.

Very Sweet! Congrats on the find.

It is. That was kind of the point. Transmission issues aside the Explorer was getting cramped, even with a 3rd row seat. This was bigger, with 3 full seats in the 3rd row, instead of two, and room to put the front seat back some, even with a rear-facing car seat.

Nice...we all must trade in our toys some day for the real stuff...lol

Looks in pretty good condition. What's the drive train in the Expeditions?

Up until very recently it was a Triton V8, either a 4.6 or a 5.4, backed by a 4R70W, transfer case depended on options. I personally have not seen on 04-14 Expedition with any engine but a 5.4L In about 2007 or 08 they started split production with either a 4R70W or a 6R80. Starting in 15 they all had the 3.5L EB with a 6R80. I am also told that a very small percentage of the early ones (probably 2%, similar to the Sport Tracs) came with a manual, so probably an M5OD with a 4.6L.

Front a axle was always an 8.8. Rear axle could have been an 8.8 or a 9.75 and they went back and forth between solid rear or IRS over the years.

This particular one, pursuant to the towing package, came with a 5.4L and a 9.75 rear.

BOF ? I'm looking for a similar ride but I'm not going that large.

Nice score!

and does not look like there is any rust on it body wise. What year is it?

Thanks for the info. Are they part time or full time 4wd? or are some both depending on options?

My 99 Eddie Bauer was 5.4l, awd, and a 4r100......

We had to do the brown wire mod to the transfer case because it would randomly shift from awd to 4wd

There is one spot of rust, on the passenger rear wheel well, and the first owner (father of the guy I got it from) sealed it in this clear laquer stuff as soon as it showed. Doesn't look like it progressed any from there. This one is a 97.

I have ever seen a true AWD one like the Explorers. This one has the 4-position 4x4 switch with the auto 4x4 setting, and the crappy vacuum activated CAD. That will probably get locked in the engaged setting. My dad had a 97 F-150 years ago and every winter that CAD unit crapped out and left him without 4x4.

I just make sure the rear wheels are not spinning when I engage the 4wd (there are three clicks under the dash before the front is locked in)

I bought my F-150 in 2005, haven't touched the 4wd yet (knocking on wood) I do have a manual t-case though so I kinda know when it actually goes into gear.

My brother had a '97 for awhile, only 4wd problem he had was a shift motor.
