I got a 89 ext cab 4x4 with a 2.9 and im wanting to take the stock exhaust off and jus do headers and a glasspack right after. Headers and then glasspack and thats it. Do i need the cat cause i got no smog in my county?

Taking the cat off is a Federal offense, it doesn't matter where you live, but the cat isn't required for the truck to run.

Make sure you use the O2 sensor if you get new headers and Y-pipe.

Ok. Now do i have to run the y pipe or could i use 2 glasspacks off each header?

on a 2.9, true duals are not needed.. but if you want-- you can.

but as stated removing a cat is FEDERAL... sucks don't it!! lol

true duals on a 2.9 hurts power, running with the cats off hurts power, I've seen a couple of people run the 2.9 open cat with alright results. Swapping to headers will eliminate the most restrictive part of the exhaust system
