Last night I pulled one of my heads apart. I am doing a poor mans valve job. The exhaust valves are coated with what looks like fuel additive or something. I cleaned the valves off on my wire wheel. The exhaust valves got pretty hot at some time. You could see blue areas from heat. The area that contacts the seat on the valves have pits. I am not sure if I need new exhaust valves. I also need to find lapping compound. Where is the best place to get replacement parts "valves"?

Exhaust valves are SEALED POWER Part # V2553, Napa sells them, you can get them cheap online if you can wait.

if they are not pitted bad they can be ground cheaper than replacing them

Well I went to Napa last night and bought the lapping compound and the tools. I need to take my heads to work and check flatness on a surface plate and have our manual machinist drill out the broken studs. I will finish cleaning the heads as well as start lapping my valves in.

yeah, you can lap them after, grinding them just gives them a clean, flat, concentric surface to seal on
