Exhaust system/header compatability.

I've got a '94 Ranger 4.0 2wd, short bed standard cab, and I'm noticing a rather seriously limited range of budget exhaust systems that claim compatibility with my truck. What I'm wondering is what other years/trims would be either directly compatible (I know the cab got a couple inches longer in one year, etc) or close enough to be either used as-is, or with minor modifications to the exhaust itself, or the hangers. :icon_welder:

Also, would the pacesetter headers meant for this year bolt to the stock cat very well? Could I possibly run much newer headers, match them with a newer exhaust, and call it done? My understanding is that the gas tank pretty much never left where it is, and the transmissions don't vary a whole lot, making me think it might be possible.

Any ideas (diagrams/pics, etc wouldn't hurt) greatly appreciated.

Check JBA and see what they have for you. They are not the lowest price...but one of the best out there.

Well, you can't really leave the 4.0 OHV, but up to about 00 should work for you. Might have to modify/customize hangers though.

here is the easy way to do it, install headers, get a 10 ft piece of 2 1/2'' stainless, get a shop to bend it for your vehicle and then attach them to your headers, it is a funky kinda oval shape so there is some fabrication involved...

The problem there is twofold. A: I have to drive ~300 miles every weekend, so that's 2 hours at 2,000 RPM (making a muffler a flat-out requirement), and B: The truck DOES have to pass emissions, so the cat has to stay.

Though, any info on what it would cost (ballpark estimates are fine) to have an exhaust shop bend me some tubing and weld in a muffler would be of great help.
