how loud does a 2.5 4cil 99 ranger would be if i install a custom header but still leave the cat and muffler stock??
:icon_confused: i want a bit more sound and a bit more power but i dont want a loud sound, is:icon_confused: that possible?

i believe the 4 bangers were already recieving a header right from the factory by that year...

I doubt it would be any louder--I did something similar to my v-6 and couldn't notice the difference. I hear a lot about turbo mufflers giving better exhaust sounds. O'reilly Auto Parts has a audio site that you can pick a muffler and listen to the sound of each muffler you choose!

mmm i havent really take a deep look at the engine bay lol!! i must check my exhaust manifold to see if its a header( i purchased the car this month) a place like that to choose the exhaust sound must be awesome!!! i just want a exhaust tip with no sound just the look. prevoius to this car i had a toyota tercel with a custom exhaust (loud as hell) so im not in the mood for loud sounds on this car, besides the 12" kenwood sub in the back of the seat lol!! :D

replacing a manifold with a header will increase the sound level a little, but not much with the stock cat and muffler in place.

of coarse if its already got a header, theres no point in replacing it:icon_thumby:

if you just want looks, put dummy pipe under the truck with the chrome tips you want & mount the set-up under the truck anywhere you want---single exhaust or dual exhaust---- out the rear under the bumper----behind the tires------in front of the tires----stacks---turn-downs before the axle---behind the axle.....it doesn't have to please anybody but you!....:icon_hornsup:

header is a waste of time and it woulnt sound any different from stock. as far as some sound while keeping it quiet. I would look into a hooker max flow muffler. There a strait thru muffler that will net you some torque and power if sized correctly and keep the sound down
heres a lumpy idle with the flows notice how quiet it keeps it'
