Tell me what y'all think of this setup. I think it sounds awesome. Probably as close to a V8 you could make the 4.0 sound. Anyways he's got headers into 3inch piping to a flowmaster and 2.5" piping out to 3.5" tips. I'm wondering if those diamater piping are too big though for the 4.0L and if you'd still get the performace out of it.

sounds like a v-6 with split dual exhaust :dunno:

i would say 3" pipe is a little much for a torquey engine like the 4.0. i wouldnt go over 2.5 personally.

no i mean like a single in/dual out muffler. that doesnt sound like true duals, the note is too high and "compressed" sounding...much like single exhaust.

So if it were a single in single out with 2 of them would it sound deeper? What about a dual in dual out?

true dual exhaust sounds deeper and more "lumpy" than single (or split) exhaust.

i havnt heard any dual in dual out mufflers in person, so i couldnt tell you. if your running true duals through it then it would probably sound more like true duals.

I would need two cats then wouldnt I? From what I briefly checked cat's are pretty expensive, are there any decent brands that arent a fortune?

you would need two cats. JC whitney sells cheapos for about $80 a pop. dont be fooled by "high flow" cats as they use the exact same design as the cheapos.

beware that you have a cat efficiency monitor on your truck. you could have some troubles keeping the CEL off with a true dual setup. you might be able to just install it in one pipe (pick a side) and that might keep it happy, but ive never tried anything like that on an OBDII vehicle so i really cant say for sure.

a v6 sounds liek a v6 not a v8. A 4.0 has beefy sound almost like a v8 at idle but at high revolutions it still has 6 cylinders and a muffler isnt going to change that

i would. in fact i stuck one on my blue escort after the factory converter decided to fill my muffler with its guts :icon_thumby:

I definitely understand that. After going from my 92 Fullsize Bronco with the 302 and duals to the ranger, I missed that sound. I know I'm not going to get V8 sound out of a 6 but there are things you can do to upgrade the power and reach a kind of happy medium between sounds.
