exhaust on a 4.0, 3.0 and 2.3

so how much mileage can one get in a 84 ranger carbed with a 2.3 and a 4 speed? i get 20-23 mpg

wicked sludge, ii would like to take this time out to apologize to you. i was reading through my posts and i got a little overboard. there was no need for it. thank you for your info. dave

thanks for the apology, but its not really necissary. everyone here is entitled to their own opinions, including you.

a carbed 2.3 will never do as well as a fuel injected 2.3. i wouldnt expect more than mid 20's out of it.

32 mpg out of a 5.0?

I have gotten 24 at best out of a 5.0, and that was not in a 5000lb towncar.

hard to believe I know, however I followed all his MPG improvement threads.
My cousins 93 5.0L stang got 27mpg on the highway...this is cdn mpg also, dunno how much that affects the conversion to US mpg

I believe canada uses imperial gallons instead of US gallons. An imperial gallon is 1.2 USG, so 27mpg in imperial gallons is really only 23mpg US. It's good in that it's better than most trucks...but not real special for a car.

I don't know of much of anything with a V8 that can consistently beat 25mpg US, except for GM. I swear their staff must secretly employ wizards to accomplish what they do. My buddies 1991 Corvette averages 26mph, he's seen 30mpg on the highway.

a corvette is also an extremely streamlined vehicle...much moreso than any ford vehicle...much less a ranger.

true but you can cross check similar vehicles GM vs anybody else and the GM almost always has an edge on the mpg. Truck vs truck, sports car vs sports car, four door sedan vs four door sedan. The Avalanche with an OHV 5.3L manages the same mpg as a OHC 3.5L Honda Ridgeline. By all methods of logic the Ridgeline should do significantly better because it's lighter, has less power and a 33% smaller and supposedly more advanced engine, etc but the Avalanche can still match it.

I've always been a Ford man when it comes to trucks but I don't buy blue for the gas mileage.

on the 2003 ranger that was mentioned a way's back that truck has 2 cats and one resonateor (however you spell it) I have an 04 ranger edge 2wd and its the exact same
