on a 302 swap will a 1977 or a 1975 manifold fit corectly. i was looking in the tech library and the driver side manifold doesnt look the same as the one i found. the one i found has a downward flange on it but the pictured one doesnt?

Go a head with getting the engine in place, then see if you can work with what you have with out much clearance issue. Hard to say what you have and if it will work, all depends, going to have to test fit and see.

.

I don't know what you have, but this one fit fine in my '93 using Mustang mounts...

I had the engine setting down in there how I wanted it, then I jerked it back up a little and stuck my headers on it. Makes it a lot easier to put on. I later had to pull the DS header back off to put the dipstick tube in... would have been a lot easier to do with the engine up and kicked off to the other side.

If I understand the OP correctly, he's working with cast iron manifolds... should be fine with the engine in place. Headers, yeah, a little more room is always nice :icon_thumby:

well im just trying to plan ahead before i start the swap since i wont have a lot of time once i start it. i only have the factory headers with my engine and ive been told they dont fit so i wanted to buy some manifolds, but i want to try and avoid buying them and then finding out later that they wont work. and like i said i wont have much time durring the swap to order new ones.

has anyone used the explorer tubular manifolds. im sure they will fit but im just currius how low the driver side manifold pionts down?

The only tube type Explorer manifolds I would use are the discontinued FRPP ones, the stock ones go in the junk pile. I've posted up pictures before of just how restrictive they are. The later cast iron ones are at least an improvement.

Room is nice with anything, the steering is right in the way of everything on the DS.

I am currently replacing stock '79 Cougar manifolds with Hedmans 88400 headers. My Cougar cast irons sound like the manifolds you are describing and the Hedman flanges look like the cast irons that 5.0 is showing in his picture.

I am doing a 4x2 Ranger but in order to use the Cougar manifolds the prior owner got pretty torch happy with the passenger side frame in order to make them fit. So on that note I don't think that matters, 2 or 4 wheel drive, you would have a better chance of making the Hedmans work without hacking things up.

2wd I would go with the Shelby Try-Y's in a heartbeat.

The later 70's kinda look like the pictured DS but on both sides, but they stick a lot farther out from the block.
