Exhaust manifold studs

Ok I have a 99 4.0 OHV, and in process of replacing cracked head. Problem is that I need the studs that screw into the head for the exhaust manifold. Ford motors wants 90 bucks for them, is there anywhere else to get some?

Threaded rod from your local hardware store. Thats all I used when I replaced my heads. Cut it to length and call it a day.

i just ran a tap down each hole to clean the threads up and used grade 8's.

You can get grade 8 threaded rod as well as bolts. I'm using metric 10.9 bolts in my '97 f-150 4.2l.

I just did the head gaskets on mine and had a heart attack when ford told me what they wanted. I went to advance auto, on the shelf the had a pack of generic "ford exhaust manifold bots"! They were just right. I could not believe it!!

Oh yea, they were cheap!

yea i just got done doing a my head and busted 2 manifold bolts luckly they were protruding out to were i could grab em with a pair a vice grips heated it up cherry then shoved it under cold water to cool it down fast to seperate the rust in the threads and little less to 1 min i had them out lol. I hunted everywere for exhaust manifold bolts and everyone directed me to the dealer so i said screw it and went to the hardware store and they even had flanged hexbolts lol.
