OK, so I have a set of Pacesetter headers, a factory Y-pipe that was cut down to work with them, but has now rusted through at the flange. I also had to notch and heat the pipes up at the other end to get the whole thing apart so that I could actually put it in.

My options as things stand are to:

1) cut the flange off the custom Y-pipe, clean up the top end a bit, and then sleeve clamp it and build a true dual custom system the whole way back

2) cut down my other factory y-pipe to match the now damaged one and run my existing hodge-podge exhaust system

or

3) get some pipes and start building a custom dual system.

I am currently leaning towards cutting down one of the two y-pipes and building a dual system with a pair of staggered universal fit 3-way cats. Not sure what I'd do for mufflers yet.

So, ideas?

id get some pipe and make a custom exhaust.

a v6 wont sound good with true duals.

really. the 1st gens are really pretty easy to make a exhaust for.

and i would run a turbo style muffler on it personally. but thats just me

I never had duals.

Between:

1. The original muffler
2. Turbo muffler
3. Glasspack
4. 1997 F-150 catback

I liked the sound of the turbo muffler the best. My rotor came loose and the resulting backfire blew it out so I tried the glasspack just for something different. I ditched it ASAP after my brother put duals on his F-150 and got his SS factory catback. It was all welded in one big hunk as opposed to my patched together POS exhuast.

I like this probably the most. Just be careful because you don't want to sound too raspy...especially with a dual exhaust (which might make the raspyness worse).

For mufflers, I'm honestly not sure since my only experience has been my Magnaflow straight through or a Dynomax on Rangers. Both sound good IMHO.

Oh and hearing about everyone's Frankenstein exhaust systems makes me feel better about my patched up POS exhaust.

I decided to go the quick and dirty route for the moment. I JB welded the hole in the Y-pipe and I'm gonna get some sleeve clamps, force it back onto the headers and run that for now.

One of these days, I'll get to measuring and hacking my other y-pipe, or just building it out of new stuff. For now though, the goal is quick, dirty, and back together so I can drive it.

Will def take all this into account when I go to make the new one.

If it were mine, this is what I'd do. I wouldn't go over 2-2.25" pipe though.

EDIT: Stupid effin' Shane. I didn't see you'd already done something. Sorry man!

Well, that's what I want to do eventually, but I want to wait until I have the money to buy some heavy duty piping that will last a bit longer.

Well, that didn't work.

The y-pipe wants some of the same space as the front drive shaft. Just gonna break down and buy the proper 4x4 header set. I also held my 4x4 y-pipe up to the whole thing, I just don't see how to cut it down the work. The shape is all wrong.
