well currently ive got gutted converter which is hollowed case and stock manifolds and thrush weld series which is knockoff of 2chamber flowmaster exiting the passenger side single tip using a stock 03 cobra tip which does have fiberglass in it. What would be louder and maybe sound better? i thought the exhaust tip may be quieting it but im not sure if its that big of deal but the truck is a 83 with the wonderful duraspark swap and the ticking noise I wish i could get rid of what causes that? is engine about shot or what its done it everysince i bought it

Being a 2.8, it will never sound like a v8 and will never truley sound "good" as one would say. Also the ticking is caused by the lifters due to them beinf soild and you have to adjust them manualy. The ticking with mine is sonething thay I have come to love.

As for louder, straight headers or straight pipe will do that but I think noise laws would have you there and it wouldnt sound good either.

For the ticking you need to pull the valve covers, when it is cold and adjust them on TDC of each cylinder. Find compression stroke on #1 cyl and line up the timing mark to TDC then follow the firing order I used a long thin screwdriver in the plug hole to tell when the next one was all the way up. If you have the time new valve guide seals would be a good thing to do while you have the valve covers off. The tech library under 2.8 l explains hoe to change the seals and gives you the valve lash specs.

thanks kim

you have helped me in the past alot when I had issues with vaccuum leak and duraspark swap so honestly the truck has not broke down every since the swap and I average 18mpg on hwy but with the 3.08 gear I wish had something like 3.73 that be huge difference I would think having the c3 tranny yuck but anyways I have done adjustment on the lifters and it got rid of tick but there is more of a diesel sound too the truck is that just cause its solid lifter? Its just loud engine but runs good did .14intake and .16exhaust while engine was cold
