simple question for now, i have an evap code, don't remember off hand which one it was, but i seem to remember "evap sensor" when i got it cleared last time, the guy at the parts store tried to convince me it was because i need a new gas cap... any merit to this or is he just trying to sell me a gas cap?

will get the code later today when i wake up...

It's something to consider - my '02 van will run like crap and throw an evap code if the gas cap is not on tight.

Usually it will be a evap leak code. Don't buy an aftermarket gas cap, spend $5 more and get a ford one. Way better quality and wont cause another leak.

Evap is the venting of the fuel system. A gas cap is probably a good place to start. What I would do is take the gas cap off look for a damaged gasket. If it looks ok just put the cap back on. Then you could either clear the code or drive the truck to clear the code. You could also check the hoses that go to the charcol canister. What exactly was the code number that he got or wouldn't he tell you?

I've learned to live with P1443, I've replaced everything and it won't go away.
I also checked all of the wiring and went as far as replacing the PCM.

Back on topic, the gas cap is a start.
If you're really worried about it, the dealer can pinpoint the problem.

The dealer will charge me about 100$ to do it too... Lol

The code is p0442, I have a code reader, but wasn't sure how to use it (it's also one of those scan gauge deals...

I'll check the gasket tomorrow (today when I wake up)

Sent from somewhere naughty!

interesting development... i don't fill the truck often, because i drive to and from work, and that's about it, which is 60km round trip... i put usually 30$ in at a time, and no more till the light comes on... well, i filled it this weekend for wheeling, cleared the code, and it stayed off for 300km... gets down to about 1/4 tank, bing, light comes back on... and i suspect that after clearing it, it will come back on several more times before i refill it...

now why would i get a p0442 code, only when the tank is low?
