Escorts 2nd SAS

Really thinking of air locker since its mostly road use and once in a while off-road.

I've had it with how much play it makes the rear driveline have. Not so bad in 2wd, but this week with the snow on the roads makes the front do most of the work then the front tires start to loose traction and the rear will kick it sideways all while doing 35mph on packed snow. I'm half tempted to pull it now and go back to open diff!

Lockers SUCK on snowy roads!

thats why I kept my rear LS

Yes I did preheat the c's. Plus I have my buddy cutting out some c gussets and truss this week that will go in it during my week shutdown.

Not all lockers suck, just the Lockright does.

:icon_confused: I love my locker on snowy roads. Makes it predictable.

With a locker, both wheels lose traction and send you sideways. Which i do agree, its fun. But not in traffic when you have little room. With an open diff, one tire does not spin, which maintains friction, which keeps you straight and on track. Then you use the front axle to help you accelerate.

That is why i sold my plow. My ranger was locked front and rear at the time. It would only go sideways haha.

I have a lock rite in my 8.8 and have had zero issues with it.

Lockers are touchy in snow, but they are very predictable.

^ This. My Aussie has never let me down in the snow. I have no problems starting out in traffic and I don't have problems sliding sideways starting out either.

Maybe it needed some shims when I installed it? But there is tons of slop in the driveshaft, and when the slop is taken out when driving I can feel it lurch and then it starts to loose traction.

Yea the locker need to be set up properly. I had to make custom shims for the side gears on mine.

My first Genuine Gear locker (aka Detroit Quick Lok)was a factory turd. It would slip both side gears when ever you tried to move.

I could have put some shims in and probably got it to work, but I was younger, it was my only ride, my first time dealing with a locker, and my ride to work the following morning.

That's another thing, it slips while driving straight down the road, scares the poop out of me when it does.

i have no complaints with my locker related to driving in snow. slop in the drivetrain is only an issue on dry pavement

Never had an issue with mine tried playing with it locked front and rear in the snow and the only time it was annoying was tight turns didn't work. I would take it over the stock LS any day. At least with a locker I know were it is going.

JD2 model 3 will be here next week.
