Escorts 2nd SAS

What's the problem?

It drives straight, tracks straight, but on rough back roads and small dips in the road, I am getting real bad bumpsteer. I do know that one problem is the draglink tab needs to be on top of the tierod to keep it from twisting the tierod when steering back and forth.

I would say go over the knuckle. Shorten those tabs as much as possible, then drop the frame end of the trackbar down an inch.

My setup has practically no bump steer, and the only real difference we have is the hieght of those tabs. Or maybe your TREs allow the tierod to rotate a lot compared to my rod ends.

Oops, I didnt realize there were responses already lol I am a little behind

And Plum, I dont like my steering either. I want your opinion when you stop over next week.

Is your setup similar to Escorts and mine?

Well....my life has taken a turn for the worse. Having some problems at home and have absolutely no interest in the ranger....nor any more wheeling trips. This might be my last post for a while too. Need to take care of more important things.

do what you gotta do at home first. We understand that. I'll keep ya in thoughts and prayers, if I can help anyway... you know how to find me on here or facebook. :icon_thumby: Best of luck to you in the situation.

Thanks, I/we will need it.

Gone from TRS for a few weeks and a lot has changed with everyone's builds.

Not much has changed with mine, I did find my problem with the steering, its a bad bushing on the axle end of the trackbar so an all new one will be made from rod ends instead of bushings.

The alternator took a crap on me a few weeks ago, luckily I found one at the take-a-part for $25 from an explorer. Not sure of the amperage though but it works. Other than that, not much changes.

Gotta love those pick a parts places.

Another problem I've had lately is when starting it once warm, it wants to backfire every now and then. And when it does, it blows off one of the vacuum port plugs. I didn't realize it was missing for a few days and wondered why it was running rough at idle.....now it won't idle lower than 1000 Ron's. It used to idle around 600-800 rpm's. Anyone have any ideas why it idles so high now?
