Escorts 2nd SAS

I am not sure what the mod is called,so I'll describe it.We used to do it on our CJs all the time with no adverse side effects. We would take and old leaf spring and cut them about a foot from the bushing. Then we would bolt them to the bottom of the frame, in place of the shackle mount, and it would give us extra droop for the axles.I know the Rangers have out board mounted spring,at least all of mine did,so they would need to be moved under the frame. Not sure if this is a good idea or not for a Ranger.Someone here may know the mod I am talking about.

I believe it is called a quarter eliptical? I think

Yep. For example, there is a build thread on here under non rbv build called fordzuki

No,that's not what I am talking about.I tried to find a pic but couldn't.The leaf spring replaces the shackle mount but retains the leaf spring set up and shackles. When the axle droops, instead of the shackle mount limiting droop, the leaf spring shackle mount droops out away from the frame allowing more flex. It's simple and cheap on CJs but requires spring location on RBVs.

Not picturing it. I not getting what you mean?

Here is what I was talking about, except we bolted our springs to the frame instead of using U bolts.

that's....interesting....

It was a big jeep thing back in the day because it was cheap and easy to do in a couple hours. No need to drop the axles.Little more involved on and RBV,but it was just an idea to put out there.

Kind of like a double shackle setup. I've seen them that way but it has been a long time.
If I do inboard the leads I might give that a try

There's only one shackle and it is in it's original place.Just the mount is replaced with the leaf spring.

I hate mud!

It's a PITA to clean up. Every bushing and other things are squeaking and making noise now. It is fun playing in the mud and getting everything covered in mud....but the crap you have to do after the fun sucks.

that's why i like rocks and trails.. major mud is NOT for me.

You can still see where my truck has been parked the last week at my work. They just sprayed the surface black and the mud/clay is still there that has fallen off my truck, even after all the rain we got. Suprised my boss hasnt said a word yet.
