My dad's buddy bought a new 2013 'scape in February. He went to park it in his garage last night before he locked up for the night. He started it up and put it in drive and pulled into the garage. He went to apply the brake and the 'scape shot right into the back of his garage and smacked the hell out of his new 4wheeler!! Man!! He backed up the 'scape and put it back into drive and when he applied the brake and it took off again. He got it to stop this time, but the motor was revving up a bit. It looks like the carpet is causing this. He is taking it to a Ford dealer today to see what is going on. He is having it towed there. He is afraid to drive it. Another vehicle with carpet issues?? Hope this is just a fluke.

I didn't realize those were even available yet. How did he get one in February?

Sorry, I just found out some more info from my dad. His buddy ordered the Escape in Febuary with the options he wanted (he did not buy it in Febuary as I thought he said did). He picked it up last month. He told my dad he found out there is a Ford recall, but the recall for the carpet does not start until July 23rd. He called his dealership and it is being towed in today.

Keep us posted, I'm curious what they find. I am a big Escape fan. I would really like a newer one someday, but I think we will have outgrown it in just two or three years. It's pretty cozy with three car seats in the back of our 06 Escape.

We did a little "staycation" the week of the 4th, and did about a 80% hwy/20% city tank. It got 26mpg (with only me driving), and it was loaded to the gills. Great little SUV!

I found out what it is. It has to do with the carpet padding near the brake and gas pedals. It seems to bunch up and this causes the brake pedal hard to press down on when braking. With the drivers foot coming off the gas pedal to apply the brake could cause the drivers foot to not fully contact the brake pedal or can cause the driver to even brake harder and their foot is still slightly on the gas pedal which might also cause a sudden acceleration (as in my dad's buddy's garage adventure). Ford is looking into the issue still. It does not affect all Escapes, just certain ones built on a certain date. The new 2013 Escape is a neat looking ride. I have not been in one yet.

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 10,000 redesigned 2013 Escape SUVs to fix carpet padding that could get in the way of braking.

Ford says that wrongly positioned carpet padding could reduce space around the pedals and cause drivers to hit the side of the brake pedal when switching from the accelerator.

The auto maker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that dealers will remove the carpet padding and replace a console trim panel at no charge.

Ford said the recall covered 8,266 vehicles in the U.S. Ford spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said it also affected about 2,000 vehicles in Canada and a couple hundred in Mexico.

Zwiebel said Ford had not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem, which she said was discovered "through internal evaluations." The vehicles were built between March 8 and June 7 at Ford's assembly plant in Louisville, Ky.

The recall is expected to begin July 23. Owners may call the automaker at 866-436-7332.

I read about that recall this earlier today.

The good new here is they caught it early. Props to Ford for getting on it quick.

I saw it on the 10 o clock news last night about the carpet issue..
