Did you you put batteries in it and are they good?:dunno:

Can you give us a little more info on the truck, e.g. is it running at all, etc?

I have an OBD1 code reader for my 1987 2.9. At first I couldn't get it to work but found out that someone had evidently switched the wires in the connector ( they can be moved by depressing the small clip in the connector). I finally got a photo showing which wires went where and got it working. I don't know anything about the equis code reader but assume the connector should be the same - but maybe not.

yes it has the batteries in them and it cranks but does not crank over. i tried different connecting wires

The chances of it telling you the cause of "cranks but does not crank over" are none. Tell us more about the situation and let us help. You're beating a dead horse with your scanner.

This is going to be a fuel or spark issue.

it has 707000 miles on it, i bought it without it running, my friend does not know what was wrong with it, he told me it needed a solenoid put one but when i killed the battery it think i broke the solenoid put the old one one works fine, new ignition coil and spark plugs

i cleaned the iac valve and a new alternator

It cranks over but does not start correct? Or is starts up but runs poorly?

Have you checked for spark at the coil? Do you have fuel pressure at the schrader?

cranks over but does not start. yes. yes i have fuel pressure, i don't know how to check spark to coil but i think i do have spark i hope i have know one that want to help me

Pull the coil wire off the distributor, if you have an extra spark plug laying around plug it into the wire and lay it against something metal on the engine that is a good ground.

You can also put something like a screw driver in the end and hold it near a ground. Crank the engine and watch for a spark to jump the gap.

^^ This. Easiest method there is.

Sent from a Commodore 64 using a 300 baud modem

finally got a guy to fix my truck. he said the starter was bad so bought a new one and my wiring was bad so put my engine on 0" top dead center and wired the distributor, set the timing and now it starts up strong but now when i turn the key on run it rev's and when i turn the key to the on position it dies? so what do u think?
