Hi all,
New to the forum, but I'll save the intro for the proper thread.
I have a bit of a problem with a story to go with it, I'll make it 2 paragraphs so you can skip the story if you like.
SHORT VERSION:
The truck is a 94 4.0L automatic 4x4 super cab, the engine is not original. The crank has an 8 bolt pattern for the flexplate. By the research I've done it looks like they started the 8 bolt pattern in 97, prior years were 6 bolts. So I am just looking for verification that this engine is a 97 or later.
LONG VERSION:
I have 94 Ranger with the 4.0L, automatic transmission. I inherited the truck when my Dad unexpectedly passed away. I had a 91 ranger of my own at the time, but got rid of it and kept the 94. Dad picked the truck up cheap because it had a blown engine. He got an engine from a junk yard that he was told was out of a 94 Ranger. I remember when he was swapping the engine he had told me he was having trouble bolting the flexplate onto the crank. He said he got a flexplate from an older truck and modified it to fit and drove it a couple years. Now for my problem, It's been a great truck but recently it quit starting. I removed the starter and found the flexplate to be cracked and distorted. I bought a new flexplate from the auto parts store. I pulled back the transmission just to get the flexplate off. I now know what Dad "modified" He drilled some new holes in order to bolt it to the crank. So the new flexplate I bought has 6 bolt holes, the crank has 8. I did some "modifications" of my own because I needed the truck running and didn't have time to research. So the problem is I believe the engine is actually out of a 97 or later truck, Just looking for verification so I can start purchasing the correct parts for the engine.
Thanks!!!!
