I've put in new plugs, wires and distributor cap and verified that I have spark to all cylinders. Reading the error codes, I get a 21 and 24. This seems to indicate that the engine coolant temp sensor and intake air temp sensor are bad. Would either of these sensors prevent the engine from starting?

are your fuel pumps running?

doubtful even if these sensors are bad that it wouldn't allow your engine to start...it would probably run poorly...but at least it would run.

verify your have spark and or fuel , go from there

Best Way to Check Fuel Pumps

No, I'm not sure about the fuel pumps. What's the easiest way to check?

The ECT can cause it not to start because it can flood the engine, BUT it usually only causes that once the motors been running. If it won't start cold, it's probably not the issue.

Fuel Pump Relay

OK, when I try to start the engine, I get a hum from under the air filter for about a second. After that it stops. I can't determine if any humming is coming from the tank. Does that fact that the humming from the relay stops indicate a problem?

Is fuel entering the cylinders?

The buzzing might be fuel pump, but who knows... Relays usually click and not buzz. The pumps are supposed to cycle twice for about 1-2sec. each time when the key is turned to 'Run'. Only way to know if the system is getting up to pressure is with a fuel pressure tester.

Fuel OK

Here's the latest on this non-starting engine:
1. Fuel pump and pressure both check OK.
2. Ignition control module checks OK.
3. Trying to replace the distributor pick-up and have the distributor out but can't figure out how to remove the shaft.
