I believe the cause is the fuel pump. I pulled it bench tested it does still work but has a high potch whine. Anyways bought a new fuel pump assembly but it is 1 inch to long and does not fit in my tank. Sadly can no longer return it because of store policy. I have a 93 ford ranger rwd extended cab with the 4.0v6.

Can anyone tell me if this is the original tank or if its a swapped tank?

Extended cabs have 20gal tanks
Regular cab 17gal tank

You could "eyeball" them side by side but probably not in the truck, all the hook ups were the same for each year regardless of tank size

Should look like this one: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71dWu-UEsYL._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Take rubber hose loose and off, cut the metal pipe off for as much as you need then re-install rubber hose on it, with a new hose clamp
The Return hose is the all metal pipe that runs down to bottom of the tank, just cut it off as you see fit

Stand the pump assembly up on a flat surface
Bend the float arm up so when it is just hanging down its about 1" to 2" above the flat surface, this is EMPTY on the gauge
So what is below the float is "reserve" fuel, lol, which makes this adjustment users choice

Thanks for the responses. I will use rons suggestion first if that doesnt work then i will swap the pumps per flooreds suggestion

Pay attention to the wires on fuel pump, there IS a + and - side, so take a picture BEFORE taking wires off
A fuel pump CAN run backwards if you reverse polarity, which of course would not work in this application :)
