background info:
about a year ago the motor in my ranger(4.0) went bad, it has been sitting since then. i pulled the motor and transmission and just waited to come across the right motor. a few weeks ago i worked out a deal with one of my buddys and ended up getting his complete running 95 explorer with a 4.0. I pulled out his his motor and transmission, unbolted his transmission and bolted mine up to the good motor. i then began switching over the wiring harness. i switched out the sensors that didnt plug up to my harness. then i ran into trouble, the cam sensors arent the same. the one in my 97 had a longer shaft and wouldnt fit. i went to the junk yard pulled one from a 96 explorer and put that in. i put the motor in and bolted it all up and went to turn the key. it turns over but wont start. i pulled out a spark plug and im not getting any spark. and im not really sure were i should start to find the problem.

ive been searching for a couple days now and cant find any helpful information

Click

Can you hear a click when you turn the key? That relay contols the Ignition and fuel circuits.:icon_welder:

Does your Check Engine light come on in the Run position (before crank)?
If yes, the PCM relay is working.

Your cam or crank position sensor is bad or has a corroded plug possibly. Friend had it happen on 94 ranger. We replaced the sensor with a new one and got spark. Check first to see if the sensor is bad. There should be a way to test it but we did not check it as we had tested everything else. The computer did not throw a code on it even though it was bad. Sensor is about $80 so good reason to test it first.
Good luck
