i have a 2.3 in my 91 ranger right now, i was thinking of doing a turbo swap, but im curious about just upgrading to a 3.0 or possibly the 4.0 but i dont want to have to change my suspension if i dont have to. any suggestions. thank you.
Honestly, while I'm not a big fan of 4-banger gassers, I think that the turbo ranger idea is pretty cool. At worst, if you go with a 6 cylinder, you might want to get a set of stronger front coils, beyond that the suspension probably will not need to be messed with. For what you have, I'd do the turbo job, but that's just me.
yeah, the 4.0 is about the same output as a stock turbo 4, and yes, you would need a 4.0 tranny, if you decide to go the turbo route the stock tranny is fine.
I've seen turbo coupe engines, manual trans, wiring and PCM run for pretty decent price wise. I would probably go this route of all the options you have for a 2wd, my next pick would be the 4.0L. After said and done, I would suspect that you would not be happy with the performance of a 3.0L swap in my opinion given the amount of work you're going to be putting in (scratch it off the list ).
be patient and watch craigslist, they show up every now and then, like right now in my area there's one with near everything for like $350... probably a better deal than what I got
ok guys... i appreciate everything, and i know my questions are all kind similar, but i just found a 90 ranger 4x4 4.0 spd manual trans. with a 4 inch "rough country lift". i have a question, is the rough country lift a term or a company, (was it done in a backyard, rough contry style).
