I have a 1994 mazda b4000 I bought with a blown motor. I put in a 4.0l out of a 92' aerostar. I got it running and the idle is low. I later found out that the 92' doesn't have a camshaft position sensor. Is there a way to fool or bypass the missing sensor?

No. You can't fool a position sensor, because you would have to know where it is supposed to be or the incorrect signal would cause even more problems.

Your engine should run properly without that sensor once the computer realizes the signal isn't there. The worst part should be stalling roughly every other start.

You can also take the sensor off your old engine and put it on the new one. That's what I would do.

I guess I am not following you on this. I didn't think there was the proper spot in the block (because it's a 92' block) for putting the camshaft sensor in it? Is that not the case?

The spot is there on all 4.0l OHV engines.
It is for the oil pump drive running off the cam gear so has to be there.

On earlier 4.0l OHVs there is a plug in that hole that has the oil pump drive gear attached, it can be pulled out and then a Cam Synchro housing and CPS sensor can be installed in its place.

Good pictures here of location: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4_0-camshaft_synchronizer.shtml

Thank you so much. I will look into that next week when I have some time off. is there anything that I need to know about installing it? or maybe how to time it?

Yes, must be timed, look at the link I posted above
