Hey i have a 94 ford ranger xlt with the 4.0 in it, and well im leaking from the block. I would like to drop a bigger engine in there but i dont know how big i can go and have never done this before. if someone knows how big i can go without cutting up or modifying anything that would be awesome. or if its small things to change.

You are at the largest size available for a stock, direct bolt in fit.
The next stage, which would be a 5.0 V8 swap, involves pretty intensive wrenching, an in depth knowledge of auto mechanics in general ( with emphasis on fuel injection if you go EFI, and a BIG help simply splicing wires to go carb) as well as a good bit of modification to the transmission tunnel, radiator support ( on some swaps ) notching the frame and or engine cross member ( depending on which manifolds or headers you use ) and the relocation of the transmission cross member.

Ah i see, so it will be best to get someone who knows more what there doing than i do, but it is possible, Thanks

Anything is possible. But replacing a motor because it has a leak? That, I dont understand.

But, you could put a 460 in it if you wanted to.

The question you need to ask yourself is; What am I going to use this truck for and for that purpose, is a bigger motor required?

You could go to the 4.0 that has the OHC heads and add a bit more torque and power, but you may have computer and wiring problems to face doing so. It would be a 'bolt in' as far as the mounts, clutch/flexplate/bellhousing and transmission go, but the engine electrical and electronics might be a bit more challengine. But, it would fit with no problem... Then you could take all your spare time to fit the wires to the right spots.
