Hey everybody!!

Newbie here. My son and I have a 1989 bronco 2 4X4 with an automatic transmission (gear shifter on the steering colum). We are interesting in swapping the 2.9 with the 4.0 I know that we will need the enigine, wiring harness, ecm, and so forth. From what I understand, the engine should bolt up the transmission. My question is will the transmission work correctly, i.e. shift like it is supposed to. I have read and printed out the info from the tech page, VERY useful stuff!! We are wanting to do the swap without having to buy another transmission.

Thanks!!
Shad

i just did a this swap into my 88 ranger auto but mine is a floor shift i dont see to much difference there, but yea everything should work fine cause you can use all you stock interior wiring just plug it in on the drivers side firewall and change out your engine harness. i used the 2.9 flywheel and stater as well
