I have a 2002 3.0 ranger manual gas. The motor is all bad already and needs replacing. I found a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 flex fuel from a 4x4 donor and was wondering if this could work and if it can what I need to replace in the FF to work on my gas truck since the ECU is for gas not FF. Also what issue might I encounter on the year difference if any for example mounting or sensors that might be different?

use the long block.

Bobby nailed it. Just swap everything else. In good conditions it'll only add a couple hours to the swap time.

You might be able to save some headache if you aren't concerned about the gaskets on the new engine and leave the lower intake (not the fuel rail or injectors!) and exhaust manifolds attached...

Would I keep the heads ? Or use my heads ?and you said to not use their lower intake or do I use my lower instale ?

you just swap out your intake and sensor package and beltdrive. this may also require your valve covers to keep its emissions package intact.

long blocks will always have heads....often valvecovers and intakes too. there is a variance.

shortblock is generally just the block and rotating assembly.
