My 2.9 has recently developed a nice little sputter when driving. It idles fine and will only sputter once or twice every few minutes. I want to catch the problem before it gets worse. I replaced the air filter last night (regular maitenence) and it still sputters.

If you guys can point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!!

Fuel filters maybe? Spark Plugs not gapped right?

OH i just remembered. On the way back home from wheeling on sunday, leaving a stop sign the truck blew a nice cloud of smoke, but it was only that one time....weird:dunno:

well, do the usual suspects first. give it a tune up, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter (which you have done) pcv valve, and change the oil. How many miles on it? you might also need to change the spark plug wires.

look at the oil, does it have coolant mixed in with it? that could explain the smoke after the stopsign... or you could just have a aleaky valve stem seal and you are burning a puff of oil every now and then.

Spark Plugs are brand new. Only about a month or two of use on them. Just changed the oil about 500 miles ago.
As for miles it has about 260K.
I checked the oil for coolant and no signs of a blown head.
I'll check the PCV valve after work today.
I'll buy fuel filters on the way home. Doesnt the 88 b2 have two filters?

Man I really want my engine to crap out on me lol So i can drop a 4.0 in, but at the same time I dont since its my DD.

-Change PCV valve.
-Change fuel filters.
-Change plug wires.
-Also check the ignition system.
-You might also want to check all connections on battery, ect...

Along with all the usuaul stuff, filters, wires, plugs blah blah blah you May want to check grounds and elctrical connections on ignition parts...:icon_thumby:

Thank You guys. I replaced the fuel filter and PCV Valve (cheapest lol)
And filled the tank. (I love and hate the 23 gallon tank)
Ill see if it acts up tomorrow on the way to work.
It's resetting all my electronics in the morning due to an old battery and very cold starts, so i will replace that ASAP
