Hey guys, I started tearing the 3.0 out of a taurus last night and ran into a few issues. Has anyone taken one of these motors out of a front drive before? From the looks of it, I think I need to drop the entire subframe to get at the mounts and such. Does anyone have a diagram or a place where I can get one of the engine and its mount locations. I've cut everthing that needed to be and drained all the fluids. My next option is to just cut the front end apart and just pull the motor , then go ahead an unbolt all the stuff I dont want. Any pics or info would help alot. Thanx

i've pulled a few motors of the FWD taurus. you do need to drop the whole sub-frame compltely with the trans included.

I pulled the 3.0 out of my old 95 Taurus when the trans went, I went through the top and it wasn't that hard. Took me a couple of afternoons of just bullshitting around unbolting stuff but it came right out, even with all the accessory still attached.

There should be two motor mounts on each side of the block, and the mount on the back of the motor is bolted to the trans with a bolt thats kinda hard to see, I remember that thing was a pita trying to get to.

I've changed motors in every Generation of Taurus. I've never had to take one out the bottom. In order to change the TRANS you hang the motor, drop the cradle and pull the trans.
The rear mount on the right side has a single nut that is way up inside a pocket.
If you are pulling both engine and trans together, You should drop them both out the bottom. They can come out the top with some work though.

Thanx for the replies. I'm going to take a shot at it this evening and see what I run into. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Sounds kind of like the "Mercury Mistake" I was working on about 6 months ago..hahaha.

The motor came out with very little issues. It got hung up on the steering linkage coming from the columb. Nothing a sledge hammer couldn't take care of. We separated the motor from the trans and put the trans and subframe back up under the car. This way I can get rid of the junk all at once. So now im gona soak the motor in some engine degreaser and clean her up. Looks good so far. I ordered the new head gasket and a few other seals. I can post some pics.
