Engine question

I have a 2000 4x4. Recently I had to have the engine replaced. The shop that did the work claimed the new engine was a 2004. don't think that is correct since it is an OHV engine. the number on the valve cover is 9G944CA XDC0003871 (I believe) Can anyone identify this engine so I know what parts to order when needed?

Could not find your serial number for an engine, but yes it is an SOHC engine if its from an '04, they were used from 2001 to 2011
If you know it is a OHV then something is odd, the 4.0l OHV was only produced until 2000

Post pics of the valve cover. That will be proof positive.
