Engine oil level sensor....confusion

1988 Bronco 2 2.9 5 speed manual

Upon looking at the oil pan when trying to decide if I should replace the gasket I notice oil beginning to seep from the oil level sensor. I figured I'd replace it while under the anyway. My problem is I have no idea where to find a new one. None of the regular parts stores have it in there inventory. Any ideas where I can find on? Dealership maybe? Also, the old sensor doesn't have anything plugged into it, so it's pretty much serving as another oil drain plug. Is there any real use to an oil level sensor? I thought an oil level sensor was called a dipstick.

It's a convenience item. It's for people who are too lazy to pop the hood and check the oil and want a light to tell them it's low. FWIW that sensor it pretty spot on accurate.


The sensor is no longer available as far I have been able to determine. You can however still get the o-rings that seal it. You can't search them by application, you just have to take them off and match them up.

Do you think an oil drain plug gasket would match? The two plugs look about the same size I think. Or do you have any possible gasket recommendations (i.e. such and such gasket may work for it)?

I already told you. You need to pop the o-ring off the plug and go match it up at the parts store.
