Engine Noise

I have a 89 2.9 4x4 ranger and it has a terrible tick that is coming from my engine. The tick gets louder as the rpm's go up. Can anyone tell me what might be going on and possibly how to fix it?

Theres a lot of variations of a "tick". Can you be a little more specific like if it does it under load like going up hill? During acceleration? It's not a knock right?

However...I would assume that maybe it's the infamous "2.9 tick". Theres tons of theories on this out there but like sultan said, it's in the tech library.
