Hey guys got a 83 2wd longbed ranger im doing a v8 302 carb swap in. Im having some issues getting the engine in, im using two right mustang convertible engine mounts, the left ones dont work at all. I have the advance adapters oil relocation kit.

My problem is:

The mounts dont line up at all so i had to drill holes.. But its really hard to get an idea of where the holes go without having the engine in all the way which isnt really possible without having the holes in the correct spot. Im getting pretty frustrated pulling it out and putting it back in 100 times. And im starting to have quite a bit of holes in my frame now.. How am i supposed to correctly get the holes in the right spot??

Get a set of 2.9/4.0 mounts, then fab up a set of plates that bolt to the engine. I can give you dimensions or fab a set for you. Way easier and easily adjustable without drilling extra holes in tour engine crossmember...

Hmm ok i guess i will go pick up some 2.9 mounts. They will fit in the 2.8 right? Can i get the dimensions?

Mounting to the engine crossmember will be a bolt in deal, you will need to remove the locator pin next to the stud on the engine side so you can attach the plate that will bolt to the engine. 2.8 and 2.9/4.0 mounts are different...

ok, i purchased 2.9 motor mounts, I will pick up some steel tomorrow. Do you have the dimensions for the custom bracket? thanks :icon_thumby:

Check the tech articles there is a drawing on there with the measurements. My advice is to make a mock set of plates from cardboard and lightly bolt them to the engine. Hoist the engine in and move it around to where you need it, relocate the lowers if needed as well to get the engine in as low as possible. Poke holes in your cardboard mounts and transfer it all to steel and they will be pretty much guranteed to fit first time.

I used the mustang mounts. I set it in there with the mounts and trans attached, centered it where I wanted it and set the studs on the crossmember and marked it. Then I took a plasma cutter (torch would work too) and cut two slots in the crossmember where the studs wanted to go. As the angled studs on the engine mesh with the angled crossmember they go through the slots.

That is the only way to do it with Mustang mounts, I think you will go crazy trying to drill two holes just right.

Mine did the marking for me, then I just notched it as needed so it could go down as it wanted to.
