Engine Miss

your white smoke must be normal water vapor...IF...you are not loosing coolant and being that it is a manual gear box it can't be sucking up tranny fluid. and your not burning /loosing engine oil

how are the brakes?

you could of also just got a bad tank of gas

have you done fuel pressure test yet, or compression test?
 
The gas tank is only a few years old. Compression is good, fuel pressure is good. I ran a code checker on the computer and it told me all was fine. Is there anything that the code checker would not check? I really think this is somehting simple like a sensor or something, I just don't want to start replacing stuff blindly until I find the problem.

na.... not a bad gas tank...I meant a bad tank of gas.

the code readers at repair places tend to be a little more involved , then the generic (aka cheep) ones most use and maybe are able to get more information. not sure what your using to get the codes.
 
Okay, here is the latest. When I start it, it runs real rough. I drive it and when I get up into the RPMs and get going around 45 and up it smooths out and runs great. All kinds of power and throttle response. At low speeds it runs like it has a real bad miss and the throttle is real sluggish. When I come to a stop it runs rough. When I am driving and I just take my foot off the throttle it starts running rough again. I checked the Ignition Module, put a new cap, rotor, wires and plugs in it. Nothing. I rechecked all of the other stuff from before. I also took the IAC off and cleaned it. Nothing. Could it be the TPS? This thing is driving me nuts.

Yes it could be a bad TPS...still might lean more towards the IAC

what is your vacuum pressure like ...the Tech Library has a very good illustration on this.

So far so good. I pulled the IAC and cleaned it with carb cleaner. The engine still misses but it runs better cold than warm. After I get going it has no power and it still missed real bad. Fuel pressure is good. I'm thinking about buying a new IAc and seeing what happens. I used to be able to drive a ways and it would start running right but since I cleaned the IAC it misses throughout the entire RPM range no matter how far I drive it.
 
Well, I guess all of this doesn't matter anymore. The engine made a rattling noise and locked up yesterday. Anyone know where the cheapest rebuild kits are being sold?

go to any of your local automotive machine shop...they should be able get the rebuild kits.....also check Ebay....and online part warehouses.

maybe it would be time to consider a 4.0 swap...more even power, and a vast array of performance parts available:D
 
I thought it was blue smoke if it was burning hot?

VERY difficult if you have to ask! If you've never been around a rebuild or swap I'd advise something more simple.
