I have a engine miss on my 1994 ranger. The engine miss happens at idle or low rpms. If I go to wot the truck takes off with the miss gone. The miss will be gone for a little while but eventually comes back. I have replaced the spark plugs wires and have taken each wire off trying to find which cylinder it is with no luck. I pulled all the spark plugs and they look good with no black carbon buildup. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know much but have you used a multimeter to test your coil pack/packs?

I believe that if any part of the coil pack is not working right you would get a miss for sure.

Just a suggestion.

I wish you luck.

I'm going through the same thing, I have a 99 with a 4.0l OBD2 says cyl 6 misfire and lean. New coil pack, wires , plugs. Put reman Bosch flow matched injectors. Lean code went away but back to misfire at idle, pulls strong otherwise. Next I'm going to do compression test and cylinder leak down test. Thinking static compression is low at idle, rpm increase oil pressure goes up and pulls strong.
I think you should check compression too and let's catch up soon

Morganscars67,
I have to say I like how you told us all about what you're going through and what you've done so far.
You told us what year it is, the motor size and everything that's happening and what you've done to figure it out.
You also told us what you're planning on doing next.
(y) <---- to you and your post.

I recommend that you keep talking to guys on here. They are all helpful in some way or other.
I've talk to a good number of guy in my thread,
" I'm sure I got a short ".
Curious hound,
bobbywalter,
pjtoledo,
Uncle Gump
And
rumblecloud
All stand out to me as guys who have helped me a lot.
I've also gotten a lot of encouragement to keep doing / trying to figure out my problem while continuing to post what's going on from a bunch more guys.
Good luck. Guys.

Red94 do you happen to have any updates?

The more we talk in these threads the more we learn and help each other.

I had to edit that because my autocorrect took out Red's 94.
