Engine interchangeability !!!

Hi Gang,
I have a 93 Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0 in it !! The truck is in really good condition but the motor is gettin a little tired !! My question to everyone is if I am going to do a swap out I know there are a few years so far that are just remove and replace 4.0's but I am curious if any of the newer 4.0's will change out without a lot of modifications !!! I have a line on a later model 4.0 SOHC and was curious if it is a simple swap or what !! If anyone has any suggestions of info I would really appreciate it !! Also if it is simple change out what engine would be the best to put in it !!! Power and economy wise !!!! Thanks an look forward to some input !!!

the newer over head cam 4.0 is a bad ass motor, but not exactly the same as ur 93, and anyone can correct me if im wrong, but you might as well do a 5.0 conversion because you not only have a diffrent wiring harness, computer, and exhaust manifolds, but you will have to get a diffrent clutch kit and the flywheel was changed to an 8 bolt, where yours is a 6 bolt. but it would be awesome if someone took the time to do a mustang 4.0 swap because that is rated at like 305 hp. insane.
