I have a 1994 ranger with 2.3 engine looking at one to buy but not sure what years will interchange, with this knowledge it will make life a lot simpler.
was looking at a 4cyl. ranger motor out of a 2000 model. if you can tell me what years will interchange it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Gordon

89-01ish. You will need to change the intake with yours, but any SOHC 2.3/2.5l 89+....

Try car-part.com, its a nationwide junkyard network. Put in your year, and whatever shows up will fit. The computer will automatically only show what will work.

Up to 1997 avoid the 2.5 you will need the complete harness and ECM to make it right, unless you just use the short block and all of you top end and manifolds

'89 to '94 would be the simplest, newer than that and the crank sensor changes I believe, and not too simple to go to the older style but doable...

This is true if you get the whole motor with accessories. The alternator/coil pack bracket from a '93/'94 will not bolt up to a '92 and older 2.3. Not sure about the P/S and A/C bracket.
I have swapped a '98 2.5L into my '93. The only difficult part is the crank sensor as seen in this post.
