Heres the deal. My uncle has a 90's model f150 lariat has the 5.0 Its ben sitting for i know almost 6yrs or more he said almost a yr ago they put a new starter on it. it would start and die start and die but hats not my issue. I went to try to move it today cause i am opening his old garage up and its parked in it. put a optima yellow top straight out of my ranger in it and hit the starter and it just clicks not the dead battery bad solenoid kinda click you can hear the starter hit the flywheel but no deal will not turn!! I put a breaker bar on the crank and tried both ways and it feels stuck. any body think it could be the starter or maybe the engine is locked up? its been over a yr since its been started or messed with been in a sealed concrete floor garage no moisture or anyting its a two bay tire shop. any suggestions would help!

remove the starter adn try to crank it by hand. I have seen starters that were mounted weird adn they would keep an engine from rotating because of the benix being stuck out.

I would Second the Motion to Remove the starter and try to turn the motor over , Maybe even pull One spark plug from each head and try that as well .

thats what i was thinking was maybe the starter. thanks ill try that

Yeah, until you make sure the starter is binding it up, you won't know. Pull that and try again. If it's still stuck, I've seen once where pulling the plugs and spraying WD-40 in there freed the motor up. My parents neighbor freed up an old 360, and it really ran well after that and a tune up. He loaded it up, put the plugs back in it, and soaked it for 24 hours.

My uncle uses transmission fluid in the cylinders if the motor is seized. Seems like WD would work well to use first....it's kinda to "thin" to prevent scratches.

I advise Marvel Mystery Oil in all cylinders. Get it turning, with the plugs out. Or just use Diesel oil as a rust buster. I wouldnt spend a dime on this project until you figure out what is wrong with it. You could try giving the starter a rap with a hammer handle too. Good Luck.

Only thing that is needed is a light weight oil to cut down on scratching of DRY cylinderwalls. AFT is a 10w oil, I do not recomend WD40 as if you do not run the motor and let it set up for any amount of time with it on the cylinder walls it will actually absorb moisture and cause more rusting to occur. If it does not turn by hand with the plugs removed and the starter out take th ecap off the distributor and see if the rotor budges at all as you try to move the crank.

What was not said as of yet is why was the truck sat up to begin with? Did it have any runnign issues prior such as a blown head gasket, a knock or anything like that? I have seen motors set for years and be completely fine.

if not ****ed up, engines just want to run.. my GTO sat for two and a half years.. i put in a new battery and fresh gas.. turned on like any other day.

as previously posted, check the solenoid (if separate from the starter) and the bendix.

I did that to my Nova after it sat for 10 years. New plugs, new battery, cranked it for 10 sec on, 10 off for 2 minutes, and pop, she started.

oh yea.. i also changed the engine oil and filter. but that was it

Haha, I had to get it moved before I could change the oil.

On more than one occasion, I have seen an alternator seize from sitting due to internal rust. Serpentine belts have enough grip that this can make it seem as if the engine is done when it is just the alternator. Try taking the belt off and see if it turns over.

ok took the starter off and loosened the belts also its a vbelt not serpentine and its locked tight. so i filled the cylinder with a mixture of pb-blast/trans fluid tonight. how long b4 i should try to move it?

I would think overnight would work.
