Use any solvent you like, I use either Throttle body cleaner or SeaFoam. Get the gunk off of the shaft, drain out the cleaner, then smack it against your palm repeatedly, so it makes the plunger slide down the shaft against its spring. It should make a thwock sound.
Reset the codes by disconnecting the battery, turn on/off the headlights, reconnect (or use your scan tool).
Reinstall IAC and start it up. Let it idle without touching the gas for about 5 minutes (idle relearn).
Retry the test and this time hit the brake pedal when you are supposed to.
538 and 536 means you did not do the KOER test correct. Then the CEL light flashes at the end of the test you have to goose the throttle, tap the brake, and turn the steering wheel from side to side (going by memory).
