I was talking to my brother over lunch and he mentioned there are complaints on the Ford tech site because people go buy a Ranger and then pop the hood and get all bent out of shape that their XL or XLT doesn't have the piece of plastic over the engine. I guess that is a higher trim level/Lariat thing.

XL/XLT:

Just a FYI thing. :icon_thumby:

Wtf???!?! You're telling me when I open the hood I have to SEE the engine!? This is total BS!

I think people buy them and don't look at the engine until they home and then think Ford forgot to put the cover on.

As if a modern truck engine is very aesthetically pleasing to look at with or without a chunk of plastic snapped on the top of it. :dntknw:

It's not an engine cover, it's a wire harness cover...

Those covers never should have been a thing in the first place.

It was a dumb idea when it started 20 some years ago, and this is exactly why. Now that they have decided it isn't worth the extra production cost for something most people will never look at some people are complaining because they have to see the engine when they open the hood.

If you think the engine should have a cover, you're probably the kind of person that has no business opening the hood in the first place...

I have the fancy color cover off of an Expedition on my F-150 :black_eye:

The stock one was a cheap looking thing that reeked of "well we better put something on there"

Well worth the $3 :icon_thumby:

My favorite engine cover was originally designed by GMC. I'm at work so I don't have time to dig up a picture, but it's know as an 8-71. :icon_hornsup:

I ordered an STX FX4, not having a cover won't hurt my feelings any. One less thing to take off when I need to do maintenance.

I have the fancy color one from an Expedition on my tool box because I'm too lazy to get it on and off every time I need to do something.

It is a little unflattering to open a hood of a vehicle with a turbo & all you see is a wiring harness and no turbo.

I don't need to see the turbo unless I am working on it. I trust that it is there.

In my career I have spent far more time working on wiring than turbos. I don't always trust they are there like the book says they are.
