Engine compatibility question

I tried searching the forums and google for what I was looking for, but I couldn't quite find it.

I have a 2002 ford ranger with a 2.3L motor, with a manual transmission. The motor is blown.

What year's of 2.3L motors will be a direct swap into my truck? Also, are there any 6 cylinders that would be a direct swap for my truck?

I'm not looking to do anything crazy, just want to get another motor in it. All the 2.3L motors are crazy expensive so a 3.9 or 4.0 would be ideal I believe.

Any help you can offer up would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The 2001.5+ 2.3 Duratechs should all be bolt in, but that is all that you will be able to use easily.

The 2.3L D-tech had a unique bell housing so swapping to any other engine will require mounts, trans, wiring, computer, etc.

The 2.3s in your area might be expensive, but I bet changing engine size will be more expensive.
