Engine code p0761

Hi, I recently did an engine change in my 96 ranger 4.0 4x4. Just put anothe crate 4.0 in. Now it's throwing the code p0761which is shift solenoid C stuck off/performance . And the truck won't shift passed 3rd gear and after driving a few miles the O/D light starts flashing. I've done a little research and I've found a lot of cases where is wasn't actually the solenoid.

Should I just jump right in and change the solenoid or what else could it be and what should I do? Any help is appreciated!

Start with the connector in front of shift linkage on the transmission, probably didn't get plugged in all the way or got pulled out a bit if it wasn't disconnected for the engine swap
