engine has been rebuilt keep getting code PO3040 camshaft position sensor.
have checked all connections with meter , traced wires all checks out all good.
can clear code drive turn ignition off, start engine check light back on.
Engine runs fine.
Can't have truck inspected with engine check light on
can it be the PCM with a short?
Thanks

Have you replaced the sensor itself?

I assume you mean code P0340, CPS sensor circuit malfunction

Yes, could just be a bad sensor

Could also be timing belt was not installed correctly, suspect that because of "engine rebuilt" comment.
CPS(cam position sensor) reads position of the Oil Pump gear on a 2.5l Lima engine, not cam gear, yes they should call it the oil pump position sensor, but they don't, :).
So engine could run perfect because Cam and Crank gears are timed correctly, but oil pump gear is not, so CPS is off.

Yes could be a bad PCM, but really a long shot on that being the problem

I agree with bad sensor or possibly a piece of metal trash stuck to the magnet throwing a penalty.
