I found the cast numbers on my 302 ,trying to identify what year and what this engine came out of. Ive found that is could be a 1985 but i want to know more. Anybody good at this stuff?

Engine Cast- E0AE D3C

Timing Cover Cast- C9JE 6059 A

I'm going with the '80' year for the motor also. Looks like the timing cover has been changed to one of the earlier years. Timing covers and the matching water pumps can be changed real easy. You runing the v-belt and does the front look like this, timing pointer on the drivers side? That's a pre 70-72 water pump.

i made a thread already about my timing cover and how its not the right one. The cover was missing the pointer so idk what side it should be on. I want to kno the engine year so i can buy the right timing cover and pointer.

all i really need to kno is what timing cover will fit my engine and what pointer. Maybe a year range would be good, or am i wrong?

Motor is an 80-85 5.0 and the timing cover is a marine cover, looks like you've got a 5.0 from a boat there. The date code will tell you the exact date it was made.(the block at least) It's the number/letter/number combo next to the casting numbers.

WTF boat motor lol. Didnt kno there was such a thing. Maybe thats why it has that wierd timing cover. Thx for the info

Mercruiser and others have used the 302's and 351W's for decades in marine applications. Could be it's got the HO cam in it too. The 82-84 HO flat tappet cam came from the marine motor parts bin. You'll need to check the date code to tell the imbalance factor, could be either 28 or 50 oz/in. The balancer casting numbers will tell you that too. If it's a D1 & up balancer, it's a 50 oz/in.
