I am having mating the 4.0L with the manual M50D trans but I think I fugured it out. I pulled out the engine then took off the new flywheel and sled it onto the trans imput shaft. It went on OK. Then I put on the pressure plate/clutch and tried to slide it on. It would not go. I then examined the shaft by rotating it and checking the runout. It is subtle but the shaft is bent. It also has a dent on one side but not on the bearing surface. I also noticed that the shaft has side to side play. This does not seem normal. Anyway it looks like I am into a trans rebuild. Winter project. This B2 project is going to take me 2 years at this rate. How difficult is replacing the input shaft. I fear removing all the gears inside. I wish I had all this knowledge when picking out the trans. The yard had 3 of them.

Take it back and see if they will trade, it doesn't hurt to ask.

Good idea. I'll give it a try. I will need to haul it back from the up north cottage. When I hauled it up the trans tipped on its side and spilled the fluid. I'll be more carefull this time.
